JoshBuster has officially made the jump to Hi-Def. We got a LG BD390 Blu-ray player with wi-fi and Netflix streaming. Now that I've seen the glory that is 1080p, I have the dilemma of not wanting to own Blu-ray or DVD by themselves. Blu-ray is awesome and the ultimate way to watch the movies you love; but is limited to just the new Blu-ray player I have in my living room. DVDs are great because I can play it in my laptop, portable DVD player or convert to digital for mobile. So the combo packs I have purchased are the way to go for any new films, and I can get Blu-ray for any movie I already have on DVD. So now I will be buying far less new movies and opting to rent on Blu-ray for now, while upgrading some of my existing DVDs to Blu. Darn new technology...

Made my first Blu-ray purchase today. I pre-ordered Pixar's Up and Monster's Inc. from Amazon. The Up Blu-ray combo pack includes a standard DVD and was cheaper than the 2-disc DVD version, so I figured now was the time. If they will include a standard def DVD with the purchase of the Blu-ray then I'll bite. They even added $10 off if you also pre-ordered Monsters, Inc. that also includeds a DVD.
I don't have a Blu-ray player yet, but I know that I will get one in the next year or so, and Pixar movies are in the caregory of worthy of Hi-Def treatment. I am sad to see that the Cars Blu-ray is a single disc, and not a combo pack. That's not that big a deal for DVDs that I already own, I just hope to see any future releases with the combo packs, because that's what I will opt for.
*Update: I found a Cars Blu-ray combo pack gift set on Amazon, so here's hoping that's the kind of releases we can expect with all the Pixar films.

Oscars!
On Hollywood's most glamorous and prestigious night the big winner was Slumdog Millionaire with 8 golden guys for Best Picture, Best Director (Danny Boyle), Adapted Screenplay (Simon Beaufoy), Cinematography, Editing, Original Score (A.R. Rahman), Original Song (A.R. Rahman) and Sound. Pretty amazing for a film that almost went straight to DVD.
The other films to win some of the leftover awards were The Curious Case of Benjamin Button with 3 for Art Direction, Makeup and Visual Effects. The Dark Knight won for Sound Editing and the no surprise Best Supporting Actor for the late Heath Ledger's amazing turn as the Joker. Andrew Stanton won his second Best Animated Feature award for WALL-E, without a doubt my son's favorite film of the year. Milk won 2 for Original Screenplay (Dustin Lance Black) and one of the surprises of the night Best Actor going to Sean Penn rather than Mickey Rourke's highly publicized (and many other award winning) comeback in the great film The Wrestler. The rest of the acting awards when to Penélope Cruz for Best Supporting Actress in Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Kate Winslet finally got her first Oscar in 6 nomination for The Reader.
So now we can expect these fine thespians to have their films preface their names with "Oscar Winner" in big gold letters and deep raspy voices from now on. Time to start looking forward to this years crop of films for the next great performances and be sure to check out all the hype in the next month or so when Slumdog comes to DVD.

Welcome to the NEW JoshBuster!
It's been several years since I made any major changes to the website, so I felt it was time for an update. The look has changed quite a bit, but it's still mainly just my personal collection website with the same ol' stuff. And yes I'm aware that I'm pretty much writing this news for myself. Hi me, you rock!
