I have been looking forward to the third installment of the X-Men Trilogy from the moment I walked out of the theater from watching the marvelous X2 movie. I was worried about things when I learned that Brian Singer wasn't going to be directing the 3rd movie, but was very excited to hear he would be directing Superman. But, back to this movie, Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, Red Dragon) inherited this project, and I must admit that the trailers for the movie made me very excited about it.
I did like the movie, but it was a bit of an empty enjoyment; which is the usual trend with Hollywood movies. Growing up reading the comics I loved the engrossing stories and history of each of the characters; which is why I liked the first 2 so much. I realize the case could be made that the first 2 movies took care of the back stories enough that we could move on to a special effects / action blockbuster flick, which is what this was. I just wonder what could have been if Mr. Singer had helmed this one.
